When you contact us
This site has no forms and no accounts. If you email us — to request a briefing or for anything else — we process your email address and what you write, for exactly one purpose: to answer you and, where you ask for it, to prepare a conversation about the product. The legal basis is taking steps at your request prior to a possible contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep the correspondence as long as the exchange is live and a reasonable period after, and we do not share it with anyone.
Hosting — Cloudflare
This site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) as our hosting and infrastructure provider, under a data processing agreement. When you visit any website, technical data — your IP address, browser type, the pages you request — is processed by the servers involved to deliver the pages and defend against attacks. Cloudflare operates a global network; transfers to the United States are covered by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, to which Cloudflare is certified.
Typefaces — Google Fonts
The site currently loads its two typefaces from Google Fonts (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). To fetch them, your browser transmits your IP address to Google's servers. Google states that font requests are not used to build profiles. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a consistent typography (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We intend to self-host the typefaces, at which point this section will be removed.
What we don't do
This site sets no cookies, uses no analytics, and builds no profiles. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it does.
Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where it applies, the GDPR, you have the right to know what data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Write to hello@rootcaves.com and we will respond. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), or your local authority in the EU.
